Gwyneth Shepherd’s sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!

Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon–the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust.

My Thought:

I enjoyed this book a lot.  I was told that it has been translated from German to English.  I know people say that sometimes you lose something in the translation but if this book did I never noticed.  This book was very entertaining.  I loved the secret society and the fact that several well now historical figures had been a part of it.  This gave the book and authentic feel to it.

I also love the name of the book because it truly fits with the story.  Ruby is the gem that represents Gwen one of the few people who posses the gene that causes a person to time travel . Gwen is  full of question and not willing  to be led around by the nose  especially if something makes her uncomfortable.   Her inquisitive nature and colorful personality keeps this book moving along.  Also,  the more you learn about the secrets of the society the more you feel compelled to continue flipping the pages to see what is going to happen next.    I also enjoyed  Gideon, with his know it all-knowing attitude and over-confident  personality.   The chemistry between these two characters is simply entertaining.

This book is full of secrets and lies told to Gwen and the others.  The mystery’s are just waiting  to be unraveled by Gwen and Gideon hopefully before it is too late because there is this feeling of impending doom.   I loved the setup in this book and can’t wait to see where the author is going with it.
