Sometimes scholars should be more careful: Youthful researcher Diana Bishop briefly consults an medieval alchemical manuscript; then, after jotting down a few notes, sends it back to its prison in the stacks. Unfortunately for Diana, her quick dabbling has unleashed a long suppressed curse—and now only she can break the spell. Carefully researched, this debut novel will appeal to fans of historical novel infused with strong paranormal elements.

When I started this novel I had no idea that this was a trilogy.  I figured because of how big it was it would be a stand alone.  You can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to find that this book would continue for two more at least!  Although this book is not YA, it could be read by those 16 and up.  Those younger than that many not have heard of some of the various historical references and there are some sexual content but it is not explicit.  I absolutely found this book to be epic and the writing to be exquisite.  I love all the different supernatural creatures and the rules that they have to follow is extremely intriguing.  While reading this book I just wanted to snuggle up with a nice comfy blanket and good drink and dive in until it was completely devoured.  I am eagerly awaiting the next book with blanket and glass in hand.
